Technology
Stance:
Incorporating technology in lessons and giving students the opportunity to use technology in the classroom is essential. When planning lessons I always ask myself, what technology is going to enrich this lesson, hook the students, make learning tangible and help demonstrate their learning. Students are exposed to technology in a variety of ways throughout the day. The document camera, iPads, computers and the Smartboard are used to support student and teacher learning. Additionally, technology can be used as an essential part of record keeping.
In this lesson:
On the Smartboard, students watched a video clip on Hurricane Sandy
Students read and identified the main idea after reading an article on hurricanes
Students demonstrated their understanding using written and oral communication
Student learning:
Students asked questions before and as they read to support their understanding of the text
Students used text features in the articles to help them find the main idea
Students communicated their findings with their peers
Students shared their notes using the document camera
